The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos office said that a one-story building under construction has collapsed at Agarawu Street near the Central Mosque by Idumota bus stop in Lagos Island.
The agency disclosed this in a post accompanied by photos, shared on its X handle (Formerly Twitter) on Monday.
According to the agency, officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) have taken charge of the site, to prevent further danger.
Thewatch Africa learnt that the operatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), with other relevant agencies arrived the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
The post read, "A one-story building under construction collapsed at Agarawu Street, off Aroloya, near Central Mosque, Idumota Bus Stop, Lagos State.
The incident prompted an immediate response from the NEMA Lagos Operations Office alongside other relevant stakeholders.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the exact cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time. Following the assessment, officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency have taken control of the site and ordered a manual demolition of the remaining structure."
However, as of the time of this report, the agency did not disclose if any casualty was recorded.
