The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the death of Ms. Ladi Anzaki Olubunmi, a Nigerian TikTok content moderator working for Teleperformance, a contracting company associated with the social media platform in Kenya.

Multiple reports had it that, the deceased, Olubunmi, who had been working with the company since 2022, was found dead and in a state of decomposition in her Nairobi apartment after being absent from work for three days.

This was contained in a statement by the Media, Public Relations Unit, NIDCOM, Gabriel Odu.

The Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed in the statement the importance of implementing a Labour Mobility Law, which would establish frameworks to safeguard the rights and well-being of Nigerians working abroad.

Dabiri-Erewa in the statement  emphasised the urgent need for a Labour Mobility Law in Nigeria to protect citizens working abroad.

"Such legislation would ensure proper documentation, monitoring, and support systems, addressing issues related to employment conditions, mental health support, and the ability to return home when necessary," she said.

The NiDCOM boss extended her heartfelt condolences to Ms. Olubunmi’s family, friends, and colleagues, urging Kenyan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her demise.

She also noted that the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya has been contacted to monitor the situation and provide necessary support to the bereaved family.

Dabiri-Erewa appealed to Nigerians in Kenya to remain calm as the investigation unfolds, reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting and assisting Nigerians globally through NiDCOM.

She also advised Nigerians seeking employment abroad to engage only with reputable organisations and to be fully informed of their rights and available support structures.
