Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congres on Friday organised a solidarity march in support of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The march took place in front of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Those who participated on the march included labour unions members, students, youths, civil society organiaations, and members of the Hausa community in the state.
The rally comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s recent intervention in the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The state has been grappling with political unrest, primarily revolving around the power struggle between former Governor Nyseom Wike and Fubara.
This discord has led to a split among lawmakers in the House, with 27 of them defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress , a party in which Wike currently serves as a minister.
The crisis escalated to the point of an impeachment notice being served on the governor.
The situation witnessed the demolition of the House of Assembly complex and a series of resignations from pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
However, a resolution emerged after Tinubu held a meeting with the conflicting parties on Monday.
