Fresh FM, Splash FM, others bans Naira Marley songs

A popular privately owned radio broadcast station, Fresh FM 106.9 FM, Ado in Ekiti State, on Tuesday, banned the playing of songs by Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, well known as Naira Marley, from airing on the station over the sudden death of former signee Mahbad.

The radio station made this known in a post shared on its Instagram handle (@freshfm1069adoekiti) and signed by its Head of production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams.

The ban follows the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, popularly known as MohBad, and criticism surrounding Naira Marley.

THEWATCH AFRICA gathered that another popular radio station Splash FM 105.5, Ibadan Oyo state on Monday, banned the playing of songs by Naira Marley.

Our correspondent reports that Warri, Edo state and some other parts of Nigeria have also warned DJs and event organizers to stop playing Naira Marley’s songs and any contents under the banner of Marlian Records.

“Following the public outcry from the general public trialing the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), Fresh 106.9 fm has suspended the airplay of all songs and contents under the banner of Marlian Records,” it said.

Multiple videos of the deceased celebrity Mohbad have been making the rounds on social media showing how Mohbad was allegedly attacked many times by gangs of his former Label Marlian Records.

The Lagos State Police Command, on Monday, set up a special investigative team to probe the death of Mohbad and is expected to submit an interim report within two weeks.
